Taxi fraudster sentenced

An Enfield man caught red-handed using fake All London identifiers was given a suspended sentence and eight penalty points. Nesimi Ebil is licensed to operate as a taxi driver in Enfield, Haringey, Waltham Forest and Hackney but he was stopped after picking up a passenger on Blackfriars Bridge on January 14. Officers from Operation Excalibur stopped him in Regent Street after growing suspicious about his identifiers.

The 45-year-old was stopped on suspicion of possessing articles for use in fraud, committing fraud by false representation and found to be
using forged identifiers. It was also discovered that he altered his yellow badge around his neck so that it was illegal. He appeared at Southwark Crown Court and was given a four week jail sentence, suspended for 12 months, fined £580 and given eight penalty points. All drivers should be using their new identifiers which have been designed to be more difficult to forge. They are double sided so that the hologram, colour code, sector, badge number and barcode are visible from both sides.
